Sunlight in, savings out

India gets strong sunshine most of the year. This page shows what rooftop solar can do for a real home, using figures from government sources.

Panels make DC power; the inverter converts it to the AC power a home uses. Extra units your home does not use flow back to the grid - the calculator below counts that exported power separately from your bill savings.

Estimates only. We assume 1 kW makes 4.5 units/day, inside the typical 4-5 units/day range for India (NDMC rooftop solar FAQ). CO2 figure uses 0.675 kg per unit (CEA CO2 Baseline Database v22.0, Aug 2026, FY 2025-26 Indian grid average). Real output depends on location, shading and weather; bill estimates do not count fixed charges and your electricity company's slab rules.

The LED Switch

An old filament bulb is a tiny room-heater that also makes light. An LED makes the same light with about 85% less electricity.

Maths: 60 W filament vs 9 W LED = 51 W saved per bulb, per hour. Bill estimate at ₹6/unit.

Energy, explained simply

How much roof?

A 1 kW rooftop solar system needs only about 10-12 m² of shadow-free roof - roughly the size of a small bedroom.

How much power?

That 1 kW system makes 4-5 units of electricity on an average Indian day - about 1,400 units a year.

Why it helps the air

India's grid released an average of 0.675 kg of CO2 per unit in FY 2025-26 (CEA). Solar units release none while generating.

Green hydrogen

Splitting water with renewable electricity gives hydrogen fuel. Burning it gives back only water - a clean loop.

Electric vehicles

No tailpipe means no smoke where people breathe. As the grid gets cleaner, every EV automatically gets greener too.

Batteries for the night

Solar panels rest at night, so homes pair them with batteries or export extra power to the grid by day and draw it back later.
